Canyoning is a pure thrill incentive event activity. Sliding, leaping or abseiling down raging river canyons, this is a thrilling group pursuit.

Corporate incentive events are all about taking clients out of their everyday routines. Few incentive event activities tick as many boxes as canyoning - unique settings, exhilarating action, and group formats. These shared experiences are an outstanding feature of canyoning.

A technical activity, canyoning involves clients being led through terrain normally reserved for very nimble animals. These pristine settings are extraordinary in themselves, but when combined with waterfall descents, cliff jumps, and technical climbing, the experience is truly memorable.

Canyoning on an incentive event

Clients are kitted out in wetsuits, harnesses, helmets, life vests, and footwear and given safety inductions to manage the risk posed by these dramatic river canyons. Wetsuits insulate against cold river water and cushion against bumps, while harnesses attach the canyoner to the technical safety equipment.

Led by professional canyoning guides and utilising safety hardware embedded in the rocks of the canyons, clients are required to abseil, leap, slide, climb and swim through the canyon. Small teams make their way through the natural obstacles that have been cut through the mountainside by the raging river. In the technical sections, progress can be slow, challenging, yet incredibly rewarding, whilst other sections involve swimming, leaps from towering ledges, and slides down waterfalls.

Canyoning is an activity that can be done throughout the year and in numerous mountainous locations. Highly regulated, it is a truly thrilling, challenging, and hugely rewarding activity. Immersion in alpine rivers can be a wonderful escape from soaring summer temperatures.

Clients should have a reasonable head for heights (although the most challenging sections can often be navigated around), be moderately physically fit, and be comfortable in moving water. For those willing to take on canyoning, the sense of achievement can be spectacular.

Other incentive event activities

While canyoning is pure adrenaline, it requires specific terrain and river systems that can't be found everywhere. Alternatives on land and sea offer similar thrills and some options can be found on our incentive activities page.

Person jumping off a cliff into the sea

Alternative to canyoning - coasteering

Leap into the sea rather than a rock pool - coasteering is an incentive event activity that is very similar to canyoning. Both must be tried at least once at an event.
