Winter is closing in

Wet and cold conditions over the Austrian Alps have brought fresh snow to areas above 2600m.

The Pisten Bully machines were out today, flattening the new snow pack on the Stubai Glacier as the second wave of snow blanketed the glacier skiing areas of the Alps. Gone are the grey, ice sheets of a week ago, now buried beneath new snow which is being compacted to form the base of the new season skiing.

The scheduled opening date for the Stubai Glacier is the 21st of September and with cool, wet conditions set to continue through the week, the upper sections of the glacier should be open on time. Always an exciting time of the year, the autumn snow storms can deliver some incredible skiing conditions before many have even realised the season is open. With skiing set to run until June 2019, the glacier skiing season lasts a massive 9 months.

Group corporate ski trips booked outside the peak season can be 100% snow sure when utilising one of the several glacier skiing areas in the Alps. As well as the novelty factor of skiing in October or November, the prices tend to be lower and the options more plentiful, whilst the snow conditions can be truly astounding.
