The Hospiz Alm is dripping in meaningful history. This institution started out as a 14th-century shelter where people crossing the Arlberg Pass could rest, warm and eat. In those days, this was a shelter to preserve life when the weather at 1800m was brutal.
Fast-forward several centuries, and the Hospiz Alm of the last half-century offers warmth and indulgence to a less desperate crowd. The Hospiz Alm offers some of the finest hut food in the region. Located close to the original site, high in the Arlberg, the terraces are thronged with guests on sunny afternoons. A famous open fire roars inside while diners huddle amongst the many available rooms.
Beneath the restaurant is a world-class wine cellar, accessed by stairs or a slide devised to shift the wines to the cellar. The slide is the source of many event escapades, especially those trying an unseated descent. The cellar is a marvel and is the world’s most extensive collection of large-format wines. There are numerous rooms where wines can be enjoyed, from vaulted ceiling cellars to private rooms with tables and chairs. Overall, the Hospiz Alm wine cellar truly celebrates the finer things in life.
The Hospiz Alm is a place to dress up, where waiting staff wear traditional Tirolean attire, and the furnishings are classic and regional. Reservations are required as this venue is for visitors and locals alike, where birthday parties and corporate celebrations share the same floor.
Large corporate groups are treated to private wine cellar tours, with possible tasting sessions in one of the many rooms. On the ground floor is the iconic central fireplace, and tables are available in the alcoves around the open restaurant or in one of the classic rooms just off the main restaurant. The first floor offers the chance to dine on a gallery or in a private room with access to the famous balconies overlooking the St Christoph ski pistes.
No corporate ski trip to St Anton or Lech Zürs is complete without a night in the famous Hospiz Alm. Groups flock back year after year to this iconic mountain hut.
