As English as England gets, yet with scenery from another world.

Snowflake

The rugged mountains of north west England offer some of the most magnificent scenery in the British Isles. Timeless peaks rise above historic villages that have changed little over the decades. Rich in Cumbrian culture, the Lake District exudes Englishness amongst the drama of the mountains and the beauty of the water.

The Lakes are a region for spectacular outdoor activities, on the mountains, rivers and lakes. Things to do range from serene boat cruises, to sailing, stand up paddling, canyoning, mountain biking and off-road driving amongst other things. The Lakes are reached from London by high-speed train in around 2 and a half hours.

LAKE DISTRICT TOWNS

The largest national park in England and home to its highest peak & deepest lake, the Lake District is a wonderfully preserved wilderness. There are a number of prominent towns including Bowness-on-Windermere and Keswick. Bowness-on-Windermere is located on the banks of the largest natural lake in England – Windermere. Bowness is the main town on the lake and boasts the most amenities and direct access to the lake. Views across the lake are stunning whilst the town centre offers a range of uniquely Cumbrian shops and entertainment.

Keswick is located in the north of the Lakes, on the edge of Derwentwater, one of the principal lakes in the region. A wonderful town centre full of outdoor enthusiasts, shops and pubs, Keswick is also the gateway to Borrowdale, a stunning river valley that is rich in natural drama and historic buildings. There are numerous outdoor activities available around Keswick, including sailing, canoeing and mountaineering / hiking. Though less busy than Bowness, Keswick is the main town in the northern Lake District.
