ESCAPE THE STRESSES OF THE WORLD, FLOATING IN BUBBLING, THERMAL WATERS, BENEATH TOWERING PEAKS

The ideal activity for skiers and non-skiers, there is nothing quite like gazing up at cloud-busting peaks, whilst floating in a thermal spa. The facilities of some of the leading alpine spas are extraordinary, with stunning contemporary architecture and wide glass vistas creating a dramatic connection with the surroundings.

Relaxation and de-stressing are much promoted tonics to modern life, but as much as they are needed, they rarely materialise. Frigid mountain air, moonlit peaks and bubbling hot, thermal water offer the chance for clients to spend time in a world, altogether contrasted to their busy, everyday lives.

ALPINE SPA PRACTICALITIES

Alpine spas exist both as part of upmarket hotels and as stand-alone complexes. Hotel spas are easily accessed, and some offer superb indoor and outdoor thermal pools, treatment areas and relaxation zones. Stretching aching muscles after a day on the slopes, in thermal pools, with colleagues is quality time. Regional spa complexes are often bigger by some order of magnitude and the facilities and experience at the latest spas can be truly superb.

As well as offering non-skiers a wonderfully pampered alternative to snow sports, alpine spas can be used by skiers and snowboarders in the evenings and during times of bad weather on the mountain. Whole day programs can be booked with exercise, pampering and dining included, whilst some spas offer seminar facilities, so the spa can be incorporated for break-out sessions.

ALPINE SPA LOCATIONS

The Tauern Spa is an architectural wonder, located on the flat valley just outside Kaprun. Roof top pools offer remarkable views over the highest peaks in Austria, whilst the ultra-modern complex offers numerous indoor and outdoor thermal pool options.

ZELL AM SEE

Just north of Sölden is the spectacular AquaDome spa complex offering a range of dramatic, elevated bowls containing thermal waters from the Ötztal valley. Dining options are fantastic, as are the uninterrupted views south to the glaciated border with Italy.
