ICE STOCK IN 1 HAND, GLÜHWEIN IN THE OTHER – THE SPORT OF CHAMPIONS

Bavarian curling is a seriously social group activity where participants briefly exchange their Glühwein for an ‘ice stock’, sliding it down the rink to position as close as possible to a target.

The activity is a popular corporate ski group activity as it in inclusive and is often accompanied by mulled wine. Guides and prizes can be organised as part of the activity.

BAVARIAN CURLING PRACTICALITIES

Bavarian curling is a variation on Olympic Curling (where every 4 years the UK holds its collective breath), with a vertical handle attached to the weighted base. The handle allows the participant to release the ice stock with less athletic dexterity than is required for the Olympic stones and on many levels represents a more social sport, with games often delayed as team members gingerly cross the ice with steaming trays of mulled wine.

The outdoor settings for these Bavarian curling games are often atmospheric and the sport is popular with the locals. Curling can be organised to fit into an evening corporate ski event program, ideally before dinner so clients have some fun outdoors, working up an appetite prior to dinner.
