The neighbouring Bavarian towns of Garmisch and Partenkirchen were united as one, almost 100 years ago. The principal summer and ski resort of the region, the town of some 27K people offers a great range of services and entertainment.

Located beneath the Zugspitze peak, the highest point in Germany, Garmisch-Partenkirchen is an iconic destination for many Germans. An engineering wonder, the Zugspitzbahn cog railway runs from the town centre to the glacier beneath the peak.
