2012/13 ski season already open on many glaciers

Across the Alps there are glacier skiing areas currently opening, closing and reopening. Generally speaking the trend is to open although both Zermatt and Saas Fee have been temporarily closed due to extreme weather.

Both the Stubai Glacier and the Hintertux Glacier are open for skiing right now in Austria, with heavy snow forecast for late in the week across the Austrian Alps. In France the Grande Motte glacier in Tignes is forecast to open on the 29th September for the autumn ski and snowboard season. All resorts in Italy are currently closed with Cervinia set to open for skiing in mid October. Any time at this time of the year the clouds can accumulate and big deposits of snow can be enjoyed across the glacier skiing areas of the Alps. Autumn really can be a great time to get some turns in whilst most others are longing for their winter to start. The news is that the ski season has already begun across the big peaks in the Alps.
