A month and counting

It isn't easy to be focussing on the beauty of a cold sunny day from a beach in august but in reality it is about a month from the first expected snow on the glacier skiing areas of the Alps.

There are a number of locations across the Alps that are still offering skiers and snowboarders the chance to bag some turns but from the beginning of September onwards there is the very real chance of heavy snow across the peaks in the Alps and with the chance for some very early powder skiing. The shot above was taken by us a couple of years ago on the 2nd September on the Hintertux Glacier and well illustrates the conditions that can be found at the end of summer. If September is too early for your trip to the snow, it will hopefully serve as a reminder that winter really is just on the horizon.
