Austria is bending under the snow

With just days before the main corporate ski event season gets under way, Austria is in the middle of an epic storm, with Innsbruck locals predicting over 2m of snow to fall.

Already 3 days into the current storm system, avalanche alerts are in place and cars are stranded as the snow just keeps dropping from the sky. Kitzbühel has been seriously hit with huge snow accumulations already and forecasts suggesting another 7 days of snow. Zell am See - Kaprun is another region that has experienced massive snow accumulations, with similar wintry forecasts for the coming week.

The Tirol region, from Fieberbrunn to Ischgl and the Paznaun valley has seen incredible snow conditions over the weekend with some epic powder skiing. Today we were up in Axamer Lizum, above Innsbruck and in places the snow was too deep (if that is possible). The tree skiing provided the best visibility in the stormy skies and the tight turns offered some staggeringly deep banks of snow to punch through. Locals are predicting more than 2m of snow to fall during this storm, leaving behind remarkable powder skiing for those in the region and a snow base that will last long into the season.
