Big snow in the Zillertal Valley

Despite the mild weather that has rested over the Alps in the last week or so, there has been some serious snow on the slopes of the Ahorn, Mayrhofen as witnessed today with a Pisten Bully driving down a wall of snow in an attempt to level the beginners slopes above the Freiraum events centre.

Resort level and there was sleet in abundance and whilst the snow at resort level was heavy the off-piste was good and very deep. The last few days have seen very heavy precipitation, with rain in Innsbruck at 550m, sleet in the valley resorts and snow in most other resorts. The ski areas around Salzburg got some great hits with Rauris boasting a metre of new snow - that will require some seriously fat skis. Temperatures are set to remain mild for the next 2 days and then from mid week onwards the ski areas of Austria are set to get colder with snow arriving and staying for several days. It looks like our Pisten Bully will be back in action toward the end of the week.
