Early summer powder skiing today

Traditionally a long public holiday weekend, this year saw many long faces in and around Innsbruck as temperatures hovered around 10c and the skies opened with heavy precipitation.

For those able to roll with the punches so to speak the 'inclement' weather gave the opportunity for some early summer powder with around 20cm of new snow on the Stubai Glacier today. There were significantly fewer people on the slopes today, maybe put off by the sub-zero temperatures but for those on the snow it was a great day. Lifts on the Stubai are set to roll until early July and the skiing was as good today as many lower resorts in February or March on the 800m or so of vertical that is still in operation. Cold temperatures tomorrow and following day should make for some great skiing and then the sun worshippers will be back smiling with warmer temperatures and blue skies later in the week. It is (almost) never too late to ski in the Austrian Alps!
