Incredible snow shuts Austria

The next wave of snow has crossed the Austrian Alps, this time cutting off St Anton am Arlberg, Lech am Arlberg, Ischgl, shortening the Kitzbuhel Hahnenkamm men's downhill race and closing Innsbruck airport for much of today.

The snow system was forecast and certainly delivered on a massive scale with over a metre of snow falling on the northern ranges of the Austria Alps in just over a day. Too much fell too quickly in this latest storm to hit Austria since the skies clouded over in December following the driest November in memory. And there is no let up forecast with snow predicted in the coming week - over the next 2 days it is set to be intermittent with heavier snow on Tuesday followed by a return to intermittent snow and sun later in the week.
