Obergurgl opens tomorrow

Obergurgl, traditionally one of the first non-glacier skiing areas in the Alps to open rolls its lifts tomorrow to start the winter season.

With the resort already under snow and more to come both tomorrow and over the weekend it really could feel like mid-winter on these high altitude slopes over the weekend. There are ski hire and lift pass deals for the season opening event and as well as the skiing, live bands will be playing in the resort to bring in the new season.

Located on the southern border with Italy, Obergurgl and the satellite ski-in, ski-out resort of Hochgurgl offer skiing to over 3000m and are some of the highest ski holiday resorts in the Alps - Hochgurgl at 2150m is the second highest resort in the Alps. The towering border region with Italy also serves up some spectacular skies - be sure to have a camera to hand, the clouds that pass over the Obergurgl ski area are jaw-dropping. For those looking apres ski then Solden, a few km's north along the valley is one of the worlds' apres ski big hitters. We are hoping to head over to Obergurgl this weekend so look out for some more of these famous clouds in our next posts!
