Stand up Paddling on the waters around Bath

Head a couple of miles outside of Bath and the River Avon becomes a sanctuary of nature and tranquillity – a far cry from the masses who throng the magical centre of Bath.

Rowing boats and powered cruisers ply the waters around Roman Bath in the south west of England. But to really immerse yourself in the beauty of the area and the waterways around Bath, a stand-up paddle board session is the best way to enjoy this wonderful part of the world.

We took 20 plus computer engineers on a SUP starter course and within 30 minutes they were powering against the current, 2 feet planted on the board and dry. We paddled as far as a weir where the ‘skills’ section of the course began, with head stands and kick turns ensuring that the clients got to use their wetsuits.

Stroking the paddle in the water of the Avon and sharing the river with nothing more than the local bird population was a special experience. After a night of Bath cider and cheese, make sure to spend some time on a SUP on the Avon.
