Summer skiing

This summer the season is set to run on the Stubai Glacier until the 5th July. The glacial area above the Eisgrat restaurant and lift complex will host ample terrain for the summer period before access is handed over to the summer walkers and hikers for the remainder of the summer season.

At 3200m the ski area often sees summer snow showers but generally conditions are hard packed in the early morning followed by a period of spring snow when the sun melts the top few inches of the snow pack. For those arriving later in the morning session expect some chopped up and heavy snow under bright sunshine. The morning sessions can easily be supplemented with lunch and an afternoon seminar session high above the clouds and as such offer the corporate ski trip organiser a fantastically balanced daily program. Summer skiing operates on a far smaller ski terrain at the Stubai Glacier than the winter equivalent but with many less people taking to snow in the early summer the conditions on the slopes can be really enjoyable. The Hintertux Glacier just east of the Stubai Glacier offers skiing throughout the year with their summer season including the whole of August as well. Then expect the sun to start dropping in the sky and the first autumn snows to arrive at any time from early September onwards. These giant slabs of ice really can offer a blanket of snow to enjoy way beyond the conventional winter months. And as a component of a summer alpine event, days of summer glacier skiing really can add an interesting twist to a mixed event program.
