Unwelcome snow

Absurd as it sounds that is certainly the case for the Rettenbach glacier that is due to host the season opening FIS ski races from the 26th October.

With sensational conditions on the glacier right now after the big snow fall of last week, the clear and sunny conditions that are forecast for the coming week are set for an abrupt end on the opening day of the race weekend. The sunny skies are set to be replaced by snow clouds and plummeting temperatures which have the possibility of making a very large white glacier indistinguishable from the white cloud and snow filled air. Not great for the racers, the spectators or those watching on TV. 6 days is a long time in the Alps but the present forecast will be causing some serious concern for the event organisers, the sponsors and the media.
