Who's the daddy?

Currently both Saas Fee and Zermatt lead the way in the Alps with the snow depth topping all others, with over a metre of snow in both locations.

The big fall at the start of the week was somewhat tempered by high winds across these Swiss ski resorts that shut the ski areas and meant the powder stash was out of reach for most. Not so in Austria where the Stubai Glacier got a whopping 60cm of powder and offered some early season skiers and no doubt some absconding mountain staff some great powder skiing across an increasingly extensive ski area. The Kitzsteinhorn Glacier above Kaprun with a metre of snow and the Hintertux Glacier just short of that are also offering some fantastic skiing and snowboarding conditions with conditions mid week delivering some epic powder skiing. In France Tignes is operating on 50cm of snow with 6 lifts open. Nothing on the radar but that can change. Mid October skiing is well under way with the Matterhorn region the daddy right now.
