There are few ski areas that have missed out on the latest snow bounty, with heavy snow falling across the Alps from France to Austria. Resorts such as Morzine in France have seen snow to mid-mountain on the Pléney whilst in the east of the Alps, there has been snow down to the city streets of Innsbruck at 570m. Christmas markets open in Innsbruck Old Town this weekend, so the snow that has fallen should make for a fantastic opening atmosphere.
There are a number of resorts opening right now, with Obergurgl enjoying one of their best opening days in memory, with powder snow under blue skies. Kühtai is scheduled to open at the end of November, whilst the superb conditions have brought forward the opening of Axamer Lizum by a week to next weekend.
The Arlberg, in the west of Austria is set to also open at the end of November, welcoming skiers and snowboarders to the slopes of Lech-Zürs, St Anton, St Christoph, Stuben and Warth. Lech am Arlberg is one of the most serene spots in the Alps, but it is truly in its element during the first weeks of the season with few crowds, some really fascinating events as the snow blankets the peaks and the rooftops of Lech.
