The pain of being in or on the fringe of the Alps and sat on a transfer bus can be a hard pill to swallow, especially during hours where the lifts are still running. An evening landing just means you are missing a bit of ski boot dancing to a David Hasselhoff remix ( or something equally tough). There are some resorts that offer almost no transfer such as Innsbruck, the airport being around 3km for the first ski lift (albeit a funicular to the ski fields). Resorts such as Meribel, Courchevel and Zell am See have altiports so you can basically land on the slopes although you don't see too many 737s taxiing. In terms of international airports offering mid-sized aircraft access then Innsbruck is tough to beat, whilst Chambery and Salzburg have excellent access to a number of leading resorts in their locality. In terms of some of the big corporate ski destinations choosing the right destination airport is key for a short transfer and more time on the slopes or tables. In France Courchevel 1850 is best accessed from Chambery as are Meribel and Val d'Isere, whilst Megeve is good for both Chambery and Geneva airports, Geneva being the best option for Chamonix as well. Geneva airport is also the best option for Verbier in Switzerland, Bern is best for Zermatt and Zurich is ideal for Davos / Klosters. In Austria then Innsbruck is ideal for St Anton, Lech am Arlberg is somewhere between Zurich and Innsbruck in terms of journey times, Innsbruck being the better option, Mayrhofen is perfect for flights to Innsbruck airport and Kitzbuhel is good for either Innsbruck or Munich. Zell am See / Kaprun is ideally located south of Salzburg airport.
