Yet another step towards winter took place this weekend, as the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier above Zell am See - Kaprun opened its slopes for the 2018/19 ski season. Offering a snow guarantee to Zell am See and Kaprun, the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier also offers a snow back-stop for areas such as Kitzbühel and Saalbach-Hinterglemm, which are both within reach for day trips should snow conditions be poor lower down.
Traditionally the first to offer skiing in the region south of Salzburg, the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier welcomes national ski teams to train on its high-altitude slopes each winter.
At present it is just the highest slopes that are open for skiing, but the autumn is a sensational time for corporate ski groups to take a pre-Christmas ski trip. Advent / Christmas markets are open throughout the region, hotels offer great value and as the snowline descends, the entire ski region opens to welcome the early season visitors.
