TAKE A BEAST OF A VEHICLE INTO THE MOTHER OF ALL TERRAIN

Trails through the woods or quarries are challenging terrain for any vehicle. When snow & ice are added these, paths are virtually unpassable. That is unless you have a vehicle from another planet, whose electronics and engineering make them punch through any terrain.

Going uphill is daunting and challenging and as the settings are keyed into the onboard systems, it takes some believing to imagine anything other than a dash and slide. As the vehicle powers up the incline, as if on a winch, the plateau arrives and then the drop, with all that is visible is a hefty bonnet.

OFF-ROAD DRIVING PRACTICALITIES

Drivers get an introduction to the car and its numerous settings & steering wheel paddles. With an instructor in the passenger seat, possessing a strong survival instinct for themselves and their vehicle, the instructions are frequent. The controls aren’t anything like a traditional road car with angles of pitch & roll and power outputs flashing across the displays.

Drivers can soon get the measure of the terrain and the incredible feats the vehicles are capable of and gradually push the vehicles harder. Ascending at first seems a bit daunting until the plateau and descent are tackled, often blind, obscured by the chunky bonnet. Petrol-head or not, off-road driving is ridiculously good fun.

OFF-ROAD DRIVING LOCATIONS

On a working quarry, easily mistaken for a Hollywood film set, trails wind up, down and across the slopes. The Mercedes G Class beasts are extraordinary.

KITZBÜHEL

Located between the twin Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers at nearly 3km, snow driving courses run with professional drivers teaching the art of snow driving.
