Chamonix après ski is all about the spectacle of the Folie Douce terrace, the wall-to-wall revellers in the Chambre Neuf or drinking with mountaineers at the Elevation 1904 bar.

With its international mix of guests, a thronged pedestrianised centre and slope-side terrace at the Folie, Chamonix offers a diverse and pumping après ski scene.

Much of the action starts on La Folie Douce's terrace, where guests park their skis, sit around heated tables, and enjoy live shows and music.

A minute or so further by foot is the resort centre with endless bars and terraces opening onto the main pedestrianised street. Bands and DJs play to the après ski crowd.

Slightly further are the après ski bars around Chamonix train station, including the iconic Chambre Neuf bar, a compact venue that hosts most of Chamonix in the early evening.

LA FOLIE DOUCE CHAMONIX

Most of the après ski crowds start on the terrace of La Folie Douce. From mid-afternoon, the revellers arrive and huddle around tables complete with fire pits.

La Folie Douce is ideally located at the bottom of the Brévent ski slopes - so well situated that few manage to avoid its tractor beam.

Singers and dancers perform for guests, together with DJs in an elevated booth. The sights and sounds of La Folie Douce at dusk, along with a horizon of the Aiguille du Midi and Mont Blanc, are something truly special.

Elevation 1904

For those looking for Chamonix après ski with a bit of hero worship, Elevation 1904 is a bar located near the Montenvers train station and is popular with mountaineers who have returned to the town by train from the Mer de Glace glacier.

A sun trap in the afternoon, there are tables located on the street. Many guests wile away the late afternoon with a beer and a view of the stunning Chamonix Valley peaks.

Chambre Neuf

Chambre Neuf is an icon of French après ski. Feeling like a suburb of Stockholm due to its predominantly Nordic staff, Chambre Neuf explodes into life in the early evening.

The compact venue manages to welcome a staggering number of guests, who are packed inside as bands and DJs entertain their partying customers.

Chambre Neuf is found opposite Elevation 1904. It has a large terrace, so taking breaks from the crowded interior is possible.

Bar'd Up

Offering a happy hour and generally reasonable prices, Bar’d Up offers a great atmosphere throughout the evening, far removed from the glitz of the Folie Douce terrace.

Bar’d Up is a no-nonsense watering hole styled around an English pub. There are games, live sports on the TV, and on some nights, bands or DJs.

MBC Chamonix Microbrewery

Located a few hundred metres from the main pedestrian street, the MBC Chamonix Microbrewery is an excellent option for those wanting to drink local brews at tables. It has a stylish interior and a great atmosphere throughout the evening.

MBC brews and serves a variety of beers, including the hard-hitting Jean-Claude Van Cham, which weighs in at a punchy 7.1%. The bar also has a schnapps ski to sort the corporate pecking order out.

Bar Du Moulin

Located between the main pedestrian street and the river, Bar Du Moulin is an unpretentious small bar. Friendly staff and a local DJ generate a great atmosphere.

The back of the bar features a lounge that can be taken privately by small- to medium-sized groups. The bar is located amongst a cluster of other pubs and clubs.

La Folie Douce Nightclub

Club 1969 is located inside Hotel La Folie Douce Chamonix and offers the chance to party until 02:00, Thursday to Saturday.

Taking dinner at the La Folie Douce restaurant means that devotees of the iconic brand can celebrate from afternoon to early morning in one location.

Nightclub 1969 opens at 22:00, is free to enter and offers live performances and DJ sets throughout the evening.
