It is hard to top the experience of dining above the clouds with fire baskets amongst the moonlit snow and frigid air. The choice of mountain huts in the Alps is extensive, yet some stand out for group dinners on a corporate ski trip - venues that welcome and energise clients after dark.
Located at the top of the Col Druscié gondola, the Rifugio Col Druscié is a fantastic option for groups. With 2 private floors and a spacious terrace, the hut is ideal for private group events. The views are absolutely stunning, with the moonlit Dolomites glistening on the horizon and the celestial sky viewable through an observatory that can be rented privately. The food and wine are to die for, and the hosts are welcoming. Corporate ski trips to Cortina d'Ampezzo aren't complete without a night in the Rifugio Col Druscié.
With the highest wine cellar in Austria, at over 3000m, the IceQ is a statement structure on the Gaislachkogel peak, above the resort of Sölden and its glacial ice sheets. Reached by gondola and cable car from the valley, this architectural masterpiece has featured in the 007 movie, Spectre. Rooftop platforms offer staggering views over the highest peaks in Tirol and the flickering lights of Sölden, far below in the valley.
With some of the most iconic views in the Alps, Mont Blanc and the Aiguille du Midi, the Refuge du Brévent lies on a snowy plateau high above Chamonix-Mont-Blanc. It is possible to hire the venue privately and run the gondola until late. Fondue evenings are memorable, with breakouts on the snow and terrace. Fine wines and group dining with the Mont Blanc glowing under moonlit skies make for an extraordinary dinner experience.
Located at nearly 2500m and accessed by funicular, the Muottas Muragl hotel and restaurant towers above St Moritz in the valley below. Welcome drinks and fire baskets can be accompanied by live music on the stunning terrace. The views of the glacial backdrop make this a standout group dining experience.
Heading even higher into the night sky, the Chalet Etoile is located at 2750m beneath the stunning Matterhorn. The mountain hut can be rented for private use for nighttime functions, and guests are taken there by skidoo or snowcat from Cervinia centre. The moonlit views of the Matterhorn are something truly special.
Some mountain huts don’t need to be higher in the mountains to create an atmosphere. Lech am Arlberg has the Skihütte Schneggarei located just steps away from the village centre. Its location on the lower slopes gives it a fantastic alpine feel. Located just above Lech is the satellite village of Oberlech, with its luxury hotels. They might not be rustic mountain huts, but the location on the snow is wonderfully atmospheric.
Another mountain hut option that isn’t cut off from civilisation is the Hospiz Alm in St Christoph, and part of the epic St Anton ski area. One of the most famous huts in the Alps, the Hospiz Alm, offers a superb Alpine atmosphere over one of the greatest wine cellars in the Alps.
