SPEED, HEIGHT AND DRAMA – MOUNTAIN ZIP LINES ARE SHOW-STOPPERS

With the views & precipitous drops akin to paragliding and carrying the speed of a downhill ski racer, alpine zip lines are a fantastic corporate ski trip activity. Requiring just a limited safety briefing, clients are soon hurtling between mountain peaks, high above the distant valleys.

The high adrenalin activity of zip lining is ideal for group and corporate ski event attendees, with some accessible for non-skiers. The zip lines offer sensational photo opportunities as clients turn on the after-burners in the frigid alpine air.

ZIP LINE PRACTICALITIES

Clients should have a good head for heights, although once launched, there isn’t any turning back. Unlike the bungee jump, the zip line requires less personal commitment since the launch is managed by an operator and the client isn’t positioned on a lonely, platform, facing a leap into the void. So, generally speaking, most clients have the ability to take part, with any regret taking place around the point of breaking the sound barrier.

Some booking at peak times are required, but other than that, zip lines only require a short safety briefing and the fitting of equipment. Some zip lines are only reached by ski lift / ski piste, whereas others can be accessed by foot passengers. High winds can cause cancellations, whilst the zip lines have been closed to huge snow packs.

ZIP LINE LOCATIONS

It takes almost 2 hours by road, but Orelle to Val Thorens on the precipitous zip wire is a whole lot quicker, reaching speeds of 105 km/h and heights of 250m over the valley floor.

Leogang, accessed via the Saalbach-Hinterglemm ski region offers one of the longest and fastest zip lines in the Alps. The 1.6 km cable accelerates clients to 130 km/h at 140m over the mountainside.
