Morzine offers the best apres ski in the region. There are slope-side bars, live music venues, terraces overlooking the village skyline, local's bars and some great late-night options.
Morzine is one of the most atmospheric resorts in France and the atmosphere in winter is fantastic.
Avoriaz has fewer apres ski options, but its joker is La Folie Douce Avoriaz. This institution of French skiing and lifestyle offers a pumping terrace each day of the winter.
Closing at 18:00 each day, La Folie Douce is the venue to start the apres ski party.
The Folie delivers every single day of the winter. From the early afternoon onwards, the terrace packs with revellers, ski boots hit the tables and champagne rains down from the balcony.
It is a standard daily formula with DJs and theatrical performers. It's a formula that works - there is nowhere better to be in Morzine - Avoriaz at 16:00, any day of the winter.
VIP areas are available, and it is possible to combine a group lunch with the apres ski party which starts once the plates are cleared.
A corner of Tibet in Morzine, the Tibetan Cafe is a popular haunt with locals and visitors alike. The themed interior hosts daily live music throughout the winter and shows live sports. Beers, music and rugby in Morzine - what more could you ask for?
The Tibetan Cafe is located amongst a central cluster of bars in the heart of the village. Previously known as the Buddha Cafe, the Tibetan Cafe is ideal for those drifting off the Tremplin terrace at the foot of Pleney.
Located amongst a cluster of central Morzine bars, the Cavern Bar is a hub for live music throughout the winter. Made up of two rooms and connected by a central bar, the Cavern Bar offers table service in the form of private beer taps.
Charge a card, tap and pour to your heart's content.
One of the stalwarts of Morzine apres ski, this iconic watering hole is ideally situated close to the slopes, restaurants and shops.
Robbo's is popular with Morzine locals having kept them happy and refreshed for the last hundred years. It is also a big draw for those who have read about and want to sample its premium beer.
Bar Robinson tap beer consists of Mützig Old Lager - a withering 6.9% and the tipple of choice for pretty much anyone walking through the door. There is a front terrace and great atmosphere in Robbo's.
Le Tremplin is one of the icons of Morzone apres ski. Located at the bottom of the Stade du Pleney piste, revellers are afforded the drama of seeing skiers and boarders fall to the base of the piste unceremoniously.
A DJ plays from a cable car and the terrace rocks throughout the winter, even during the upheavals associated with the hotel redevelopment.
Most of those skiing and riding in the Pleney sector of Morzine will find themselves on the famous Le Tremplin terrace.
Located in the heart of the village, Haka Bar offers live music, food and apres ski, indoors and on a covered terrace. There is live sport in the winter, including the 6 Nations games.
The Haka Bar is well positioned for those returning from the Pleney side of the ski area and has a wide range of shops, bars and restaurants on its doorstep.
An Irish bar on the central Rue du Bourg artery, The Dixie Bar is another of Morzine's live music venues. The Dixie Bar has its resident Dixie Micks and other artists perform to its apres-ski crowd.
With an outdoor terrace out of the more congested central zone, Dixie Bar is a favourite of many visitors.
Near neighbour, Bar Robinson is worth a stop, with its famed Mützig Old Lager.
Le Coup de Coeur offers a more upmarket Morzine apres ski experience. Distinct from the main apres ski and live music bars, Le Coup de Coeur offers fine dining and a range of excellent wines.
Featuring an outdoor umbrella bar, Le Coup de Coeur offers the chance to soak up the alpine air with a glass of something refined.
