Event planners need to balance the sometimes-conflicting goals of selecting the best corporate ski trip destination with a short, straight airport transfer. This article contains some suggestions.
The shorter is often the better and the cheaper. But don’t overlook the type of road (highway or switchbacks) as well as the size of the airport – some offer painless transits, others can add to the slog.

Innsbruck ski areas offer a birds-eye view of the airport tarmac. Other transfers can take hours – not great for the excited team who have bags in hand and are ready for some alpine action. For those on an early-morning return transfer, it can be a journey from hell if the last night went late. Cheaper, more efficient use of time, and shorter, more pleasant airport transfers are available from the key airport hubs of Innsbruck and Geneva.
You can ski the best slopes in the Innsbruck ski region and watch as the Airbuses glide to the runway in the valley below. Not only are the ski lifts and Innsbruck Old Town reachable in just minutes, but the airport is a blueprint for A to B efficiency, with taxis about 20m from baggage collection.
Around an hour from the baggage carousel at Innsbruck airport, St Anton transfers navigate a few corners before the autobahn, and then it is a straight ride to the town limits of St Anton.
Following the same route as the St Anton transfer, Sölden is a southern turn after about 20 minutes, and then it's a reasonably short and straight journey to the resort centre. Journey times are around 70 minutes from baggage collection.
One of the very best airport transfers, the charming village centre of La Clusaz is around 1 hour from Geneva airport, making it the best corporate ski transfer in France.
The top of the Alps is reached from Geneva in just over an hour, with a highway departing the airport and reaching the Chamonix Valley – straight, fast and dramatic.
For those on an afternoon flight into Geneva Airport, it is possible be enjoying an après ski welcome drink in around 1hr 20 minutes. Morzine is amongst the very best transfers in the French Alps.
Some resorts are truly exceptional, undoubtedly worth the additional transfer time, but they don’t always make it through the planning committee.
Zermatt is as good as it gets for corporate ski trips in Switzerland. The highest skiing in the Alps, extensive slopes that link into Cervinia in Italy, atmospheric streets, iconic hotels and fine dining – what’s not to like? The transfer – it’s close to 3 hours by road and 4 hours by rail from Geneva Airport. For those who take the plunge and suck-up the transfer, the rewards are great.
Arguably the best skiing in the French Alps, Val d’Isère is just under 3 hours from Geneva Airport on a good run, more when the roads are choked. There’s a price to pay for skiing in paradise, but a smug realisation for those on the high-altitude ski routes or La Folie Douce terrace, that it was well worth it. Val Thorens is another big transfer - but ski-in, ski-out bliss awaits at 2300m.
Finding other worlds requires travel from northern European cities, while larger aircraft require flat terrain to touch down - transfers are an unfortunate reality.
Innsbruck Airport offers the best access to some of the biggest names in the Alps – St Anton, Mayrhofen, Sölden, Ischgl and Kitzbühel, while the airport is amazing to transit – just steps from border control to taxi rank. There are even ways to soften the blow of a short Innsbruck transfer, with a private bar on board the coach.
Geneva Airport offers the greatest range of flight options in the Alps and is just over an hour from La Clusaz.
