Lech Zürs is the most upmarket ski destination in the Austrian Alps. It is the ski destination of choice for European Royalty and the retreat for the continent’s wealthy.
The resorts are as refined as they come in the Alps, peerless in terms of charm and finesse. The four villages offer subtle differences for event planners.
Shopping is mainly concentrated in Lech, with little else in the other resorts besides hospitality. Oberlech and Zürs have the best access to the ski resources of the vast Arlberg ski region.
Zürs is the highest resort in the area at over 1700m, but all resorts are recognised for their incredible snow accumulations – the highest in the Alps.
Lech am Arlberg is as charming as it gets in the Alps. The village is wrapped around a historic church and split by a pristine river.
Lech hotels are grand and timeless, with some of the most iconic hotel names in the Alps located in central Lech.
Everything in the village is pure quality, and there are plenty of open spaces due to the strict planning laws operating in the village.
A 14TH CENTURY CHURCH
The church dominates the skyline of Lech am Arlberg. It also forms a central communal space, and pre-Christmas, the area hosts the magically atmospheric Advent Market.
RIVERSIDE WALKS
One of the most wonderful features of Lech is the riverside promenade. They are the ideal way to transit the village and enjoy the views over the resort, away from the main road.
WINTER WALKING TRAILS
The riverside promenades give way to the winter walking trails of the Zug Valley just outside the village centre. The Zug Valley is the stuff of winter fairytales – pristine nature, a raging river, towering peaks and banked snow.
SHOPPING
The central street in Lech am Arlberg is home to most of the retail action in the Lech Zürs area. High-end sports shops neighbour boutique jewellers selling luxury watches. There is also a supermarket for staple items and gift shops selling local crafts.
ENTERTAINMENT
Lechtal Strasse follows the river through the centre of the village and is the address for the main shops, restaurants and bars of Lech. The après terraces on Lechtal Strasse create a refined buzz in the late afternoon, there is a yurt to cozy up with wine just across the river and a nightclub for those on a late shift.
LIFT ACCESS
Lech ski lifts leave from the resort centre to both the Lech / Oberlech and Zürs ski sectors. Some of the hotels in the Tannberg area of the resort are adjacent to the ski pistes, and some are ski-in, ski-out.
The highest village in the Lech Zürs sector, Zürs am Arlberg, is the luxury ski-in, ski-out resort located at over 1700m.
Skiing takes place on both sides of the village, and the resort is famous for its luxury, ski-in, ski-out hotels.
Located in the heart of the Arlberg ski region, the best skiing in Austria is on the doorstep of each hotel ski room.
SKI-IN, SKI-OUT
Zürs resort stretches along the valley road, and its hotels enjoy ski-in, ski-out access.
5-STAR+ LUXURY
Zürs is renowned for its upmarket accommodation with 5-star superior hotels and luxury chalets.
PHENOMENAL SNOW RECORD
The highest village in the Lech Zürs ski sector, Zürs enjoys the second-highest annual snowfall in the Alps.
AFTERNOON TERRACES
After skiing the exceptional Arlberg ski area, lunch is often followed by a relaxing afternoon on a sunny terrace.
CENTRAL TO THE ARLBERG SKI AREA
In one direction is the St Anton ski area, and in the other, the Lech ski area. Zürs is central in the Arlberg ski region, the best in Austria, many would argue, the Alps.
PART OF THE WHITE RING SKI CIRCUIT
The White Ring ski circuit runs directly through Zürs village and across its ski bridges. This circuit takes in the best of the Lech Zürs ski terrain.
Oberlech is a gem, located amongst the trees, a couple of hundred metres above the resort of Lech am Arlberg. The resort is one of the most sought after in the Alps.
It offers high-end, ski-in, ski-out hotels overlooking the skyline of Lech, with some of the most enviable terraces in the Alps.
Oberlech hotels host a number of fine restaurants, and shuffling between hotel restaurants and bars on the snowy trails is a popular pastime in the resort.
SKI-IN, SKI-OUT
Oberlech is fully ski-in, ski-out. The resort sits in the middle of the Lech ski area, and a ski piste runs directly through the heart of the resort.
LUXURY HOTELS
The resort is one of the most coveted in the Alps, and Oberlech has famous luxury hotels on the slopes of the finest ski area in Austria.
LIFT ACCESS TO LECH
Those staying in Oberlech have immediate access to the skiing but can also access the far bigger and livelier village of Lech throughout the day and into the night. The Oberlech cable car runs between Lech and Oberlech until 01:00 in winter.
CAR FREE
Oberlech is entirely car-free. The resort is built above a series of tunnels that connect the hotels to a freight bay. The only mechanised transport seen in Oberlech consists of Pisten Bullies and skidoos.
TERRACES IN LATE AFTERNOON
One of life’s great pleasures is an afternoon on an Oberlech terrace. Sheepskin rugs, champagne and views over the Arlberg peaks. Oberlech is the highlife.
Zug is situated in a side valley west of Lech am Arlberg and is connected by road, walking trail and ski piste to its bigger neighbour.
It is a wonderful, tranquil village in a stunning, wild valley.
There is a ski piste arriving from the Zürs ski sector and a ski lift into the Lech ski sector, close to the resort centre.
STUNNING SETTING
The Zug Valley is one of the most stunning in the entire region. It has dramatic peaks above the river valley – this is as winter wonderland as it gets.
THE UPPER ZUG VALLEY
Heading west along the Zug Valley, the village ends, and the terrain follows the river to the fantastic Gasthaus Älpele – a mountain hut full of charm and a great place for lunch or an evening event.
WINTER WALKS
Winter walking trails in the Zug Valley are exquisite. They run along the river and reach Lech am Arlberg on the eastern leg and the Gasthaus Älpele on the western section.
PRETTY RESORT
Zug is a small and immaculate village. Small units are clustered around the domed church, with stunning architecture throughout the village.
SKI TRANSIT POINT
Located on the transit point from the Zürs and Lech ski sectors. All skiers making the Arlberg ski safari from St Anton into Lech and Warth will travel through the village and admire its charm.
